Achivements: Area residents complete basic training at Lackland AFB
Six area residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
Air Force Airman Kyle Carnegie graduated from East Valley High School in 2002 and is the son of Richard and Carla Carnegie of Otis Orchards.
Air Force Airman Keith Duckworth is the son of Wayne Duckworth of Spokane and a 2007 graduate of University High School.
Air Force Airman John Hawkins graduated from Emerald Ridge High School in Puyallup, Wash., and is the son of Richard and Susan Hawkins of Moses Lake.
Air Force Airman Spencer Howard, a 2007 graduate of Medical Lake High School, is the son of Scott and Kathryn Howard of Medical Lake.
Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Caleb Johnson is the son of Michael and Devorah Meyer of Spokane and graduated in 2007 from Christian Heritage School in Edwall, Wash.
Air Force Airman Mkhel Parkhurst, the son of Patrick and Paula Parkhurst of Hunters, Wash., graduated from Columbia High School in Hunters in 2007.

Tammy Bertsch received a $1,000 Alumni Scholarship. She is a Shadle Park High School graduate and the daughter of James and Frances Bauer of Spokane.
Gregory Bertsch, a graduate of University High School, received a $2,000 R.G. Andres Trust Scholarship. He is the son of Stephen and Tammy Bertsch of Spokane Valley.
Sarah Harms and Jacqueline Goldman, both students at Mt. Spokane High School, were each awarded a $2,000 Presidential Scholarship. Harms is the daughter of Jon and Denise Harms of Spokane. Goldman is the daughter of Kris and Rochelle Singleton of Wenatchee.
Ashley Bell received the Aretas and Kittiemae Dayton Scholarship for $1,540. She is the daughter of Larry and Teresa Bell of Spokane Valley and a graduate of West Valley High School.
Nathan Cutler was awarded a $350 MW Consulting Scholarship. He is a graduate of the Upper Columbia Academy and the son of Donald and Pamela Cutler of Spokane.
Katelyn Franklin received an Academic Honors Scholarship for $3,000. She is a student at Mt. Spokane High School and the daughter of Roy and Mikki Franklin of Spokane.
Danielle Kneeshaw was awarded an Orland and Bernice Killin Scholarship for $4,500. She is the daughter of Scott and Annette Kneeshaw of Medical Lake and a student at North Central High School.
Jaimie Cheyney received a $2,500 Transfer Honors Scholarship. She is a graduate of Central Valley High School and the daughter of Danny and Christine Spiller of Spokane Valley.
Jessica Johnson received a Trustee’s Scholarship for $2,500. She is the daughter of Julie Johnson of Spokane and a graduate of Mead High School.
Tryphena Farmer was awarded a $1,500 Norma Ross Friar Scholarship. She graduated from Medical Lake High School and is the daughter of Terry and Jackie Farmer of Medical Lake.
