So much for the half-hour Joe Girardi and Brian Cashman spent before Wednesday night’s game attempting to wave off questions about Phil Hughes by saying he remains in the rotation “right now.”

The Yankees announced during the seventh inning that they had placed Hughes on the 15-day disabled list with a right oblique muscle strain.

Right-hander Darrell Rasner is the likely replacement for Hughes. Rasner is 4-0 with a 0.87 ERA in five starts at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Hughes was not on the field with the team during batting practice.

The 21-year-old right-hander is 0-4 in six starts with a 9.00 ERA.
