Rypien shows he can throw a party, too

The Spokesman-Review

M ark Rypien is an all-star personality.

The former Shadle Park High School and Washington State University quarterback went on to become a National Football League star and Super Bowl MVP.

After his 3-year-old son died of cancer in 1998, Rypien threw his considerable power into the Rypien Foundation. Through Rypien’s tireless fundraising efforts, the foundation provides assistance to families that are battling childhood cancer.

At the recent fourth Annual Winemaker’s Dinner, held at the Manito Golf and Country Club, Rypien and guests gathered for a gourmet meal paired with wines from regional wineries.

One-of-a-kind items, including signed Rypien sports memorabilia, were auctioned off. Proceeds will be used to fund a Patient Advocate and Music Therapist position at Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital and a renovation of the open-air terrace at the Children’s Hospital.

The combination of a delicious meal, excellent wines and a good cause made an unbeatable event.
