Record year for grant funding
The Office of Grant and Research Development reported that Eastern Washington University’s grant and contract funding during the 2007-2008 academic year was more than $17 million, awarded by external agencies, a record for faculty and staff.
At the current rate of funding growth, EWU may meet its goal of increasing grant funding to $20 million by 2010, according to a university press release.
Awards included in the grants are two grants from the National Science Foundation and two grants through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.
Programs and departments with the greatest increase in grant funding include: the Department of Education, Dental Hygiene, History, Physical Therapy, Social Work, the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences and the Institute for Public Policy and Economic Analysis, the press release said.
Cafe raises funds for Red Cross
The Artist Cafe, 24 W. First St., Cheney, held a fundraiser in conjunction with the Cheney Rodeo July 12.
The restaurant sold barbecued hot dogs with a soda for $1 to raise funds for the American Red Cross to help flood victims in Iowa and victims of the fire last week in Spokane Valley.
The restaurant raised $200.
