Driver jailed after crash
A Spokane woman was arrested Friday on a charge of vehicular assault after police say she caused a car crash near Spokane Community College that sent her passenger and another driver to the hospital with serious injuries.
Leona Sutton, 30, was westbound on Mission Avenue when she ran a red light near the intersection with Greene about 11:30 a.m. Friday, striking another vehicle and sending her passenger and the other driver to the hospital with serious injuries, according to a news release from the Spokane Police Department. Spokane police officers smelled alcohol on Sutton’s breath and observed signs of intoxication. She was treated at a hospital for minor injuries, then booked at the Spokane County Jail.
Sutton was not wearing a seat belt at the time, and her driving status is suspended in Washington state, according to police.
