Jack Nicholson says he drew on his own experience in the hospital for his new film, “The Bucket List.”

Nicholson and Morgan Freeman co-star as cancer patients who decide to travel the world and fulfill their wish list of things to do before they die.

“That happened by coincidence just before this movie,” Nicholson, 70, said of his own hospitalization, which he called “nothing as frightening as what these fellows had to go through.”

He added, “A lot of this movie was informed by my being not what I thought I would be – an excellent patient – but, rather, a poor one.”

Freeman, also 70, said one of the things on his personal “bucket list” was working with Nicholson.

“He’s a prince of a man. Wonderful to work with. Very, very professional, otherwise he wouldn’t be where he is,” Freeman said. “I’ve always thought that he’s just one of the best we’ve got.”

“The Bucket List,” which opened in limited release on Christmas Day, comes to Spokane/Coeur d’Alene-area theaters today.

Next stop: Judge Wapner!

Dennis Quaid and his wife Kimberly denounced the Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center over a “lack of candor” about medical errors they believe caused their newborn twins to receive overdoses of a blood thinner.

A report released Wednesday by the California Department of Public Health conflict with the hospital’s initial report that the children each received one vial containing 10,000 units per milliliter of heparin instead of the common dosage of 10 units per milliliter. The report found that the children actually received two of the vials.

What kind of fool was Brown?

If you want James Brown memorabilia, now’s your chance. Things once owned by the soul singer, who died in December 2006, will be appraised and auctioned, in part to pay taxes his estate owes.

Brown’s death put in doubt the future of his trust, which might include music rights and his 60-acre Beech Island home in western South Carolina. The total value is still unclear.

Uma fan faces lesser charges

A judge threw out a felony charge against a former mental patient accused of stalking Uma Thurman on Wednesday, leaving him to face two misdemeanor counts.

Jack Jordan had sent Thurman an e-mail, saying he would kill himself if he saw her with another man. Threatening to kill yourself “is not chargeable,” Justice Gregory Carro said. Jordan, 36, was arrested last year on charges of stalking Thurman for two years. He has been free on a $10,000 bail.
