Butler notches 7th straight win

Matt Howard had 22 points and nine rebounds, and No. 14 Butler beat Wisconsin-Green Bay 74-65 on Thursday night at Indianapolis for its seventh straight win.

Mike Green scored 18 points, A.J. Graves added 13 and Willie Veasley had seven points and a career-high 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (15-1, 4-1 Horizon League), who tied the 2002-03 team for the best start in school history.

Terry Evans led Green Bay (9-6, 3-2) with 12 points and 13 rebounds while Mike Schachtner added 11 points.

(21) Wisconsin 70, Illinois 60: At Madison, Wis., Trevon Hughes scored 22 points and Brian Butch added 16 as the Badgers beat the Illini to give Illinois its first four-game losing streak under coach Bruce Weber.

The Illini (8-8, 0-3 Big Ten) are the only conference team to beat Wisconsin (13-2, 3-0) in the Kohl Center under coach Bo Ryan.

Eustachy rejoins team

Southern Mississippi coach Larry Eustachy will coach the Golden Eagles in their home game against Tulane on Saturday.

Eustachy left the team Tuesday to be with his ailing mother in California. He will coach the game Saturday, then return to San Clemente to be with his mother.

Women

(2) Tennessee 85, (22) Auburn 52: At Knoxville, Tenn., Nicky Anosike scored a career-high 20 points and the Lady Vols (13-1) physically dominated the Tigers (12-4). Anosike and Candace Parker each had double-doubles for Tennessee (13-1). Angie Bjorklund (University High) finished with seven points, six rebounds and six assists. DeWanna Bonner finished with 19 points for Auburn (12-4).

(3) North Carolina 79, Virginia Tech 59: At Blacksburg, Va., Erlana Larkins scored 22 points and Rashanda McCants had 20 to help the Tar Heels (15-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) defeat the Hokies (12-5, 0-3) .

(4) Maryland 88, Boston College 61: At Boston, Crystal Langhorne had 18 points and 18 rebounds and the Terrapins (19-1, 3-0 ACC) beat the Eagles (13-4, 2-1).

(7) Stanford 81, Oregon State 45: At Stanford, Calif., Jayne Appel had 25 points and eight rebounds and the Cardinal ended a two-game losing streak in beating the Beavers. Cissy Pierce added 10 points for Stanford (13-3, 3-2 Pac-10). Ashley Allen scored 13 points to lead Oregon State (8-7, 1-3).

(9) California 61, Oregon 52: At Berkeley, Calif., Ashley Walker had 25 points and eight rebounds and the Bears held off the Ducks. Walker was the only player in double figures for Cal (14-2, 5-0). Taylor Lilley had 15 points for Oregon (8-7, 2-2).

(10) Georgia 75, Mississippi 62: At Athens, Ga., Megan Darrah led five Bulldogs in double figures with 19 points and the Lady Bulldogs (14-1) defeated the Rebels (6-8) in the SEC opener for both teams.
