Shadle victory creates a logjam in second place

A fourth-quarter rally carried Shadle Park past Mead 54-49 Friday in Greater Spokane League girls basketball and tightened the standings behind unbeaten Lewis and Clark.

The visiting Highlanders outscored the Panthers 20-8 in the final period for victory to tie the two teams for second along with idle Central Valley (all 7-2).

University (7-3) is one-half game behind the trio.

Mead had taken a 27-21 halftime lead with a 19-point second quarter and improved the advantage to seven points through three periods.

But Shadle, which made 23 of 28 free throws in the game, stormed from behind with a big finish. Lexie Pettersen, who scored 16 points, and Bianca Pope, with 14, were a combined 13 of 16 from the line.

Gonzaga Prep 52, Ferris 48: The host Bullpups (4-5) won a fourth-quarter battle to break a tie for sixth place between district playoff hopefuls. The Saxons (3-6) had led by five points at intermission, but G-Prep outscored them 34-25 in the second half. Tia Presley had 18 points for the winners. Liz Boyden led all scorers with 21 for the Saxons.

North Central 47, Mt. Spokane 36: The visiting Indians (2-7) outscored the Wildcats (3-6) 16-4 in the first quarter and maintained the lead throughout. Andrea DePaolo and Katelyn Fiorillo combined for 22 points in leading the victory. Leanna Lloyd and Callie Bergstrom combined for 23 points for Mt. Spokane.

University 51, East Valley 36: The visiting Titans found themselves trailing after a quarter to the Knights (1-8), but got untracked in the middle two periods to pull away. Kasey Jurich scored 12 points.

Lewis and Clark 80, Rogers 29: The visiting Tigers (9-0) lead the GSL by two games. Ten LC players scored, four in double figures. Kiara January (14) and Daisy Burke (11) did so for the first time this season. Sophomore Samantha Roybal recorded a season-high five 3-pointers and 15 points for the Pirates (0-9).
