Eagles beat Pacific
Nicole Scott made all six of her field goal attempts, including two 3-pointers, on her way to 14 points and the Eastern Washington Eagles earned a 63-58 non-conference women’s basketball victory over the Pacific Tigers on Saturday at Reese Court in Cheney.
Kyla Evans and Julie Piper contributed 10 points apiece for the Eagles (4-5), who shot 54.5 percent from the floor in the game.
“Pacific is an excellent basketball team and we played extremely hard,” Eastern coach Wendy Schuller said.
“We had to battle every step of the way for 40 minutes and it was a really nice win for us. I was proud to see our players be resilient the way they were and fight to make plays down the stretch.”
Amber Simmons led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting for Pacific (3-5).
The four victories match the season total from a year ago, when Eastern lost 25 games.
The Eagles shot 54.5 percent from the floor, surpassing 50 percent for the second time this season, a feat that didn’t happen at all last season.
•Jordan Brown scored 15 points and Beth Alexander added 11 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Columbia Basin Hawks (4-4) to a 54-53 non-conference victory over the North Idaho Cardinals at Pasco.
Kia Gibson led NIC (8-2) with 11 points. Lindsey Stark chipped in with 10.
•Richelle Daily scored 23 points and Meghan Eisenmann had 13 rebounds to lead the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (5-3) to a 63-52 victory over a CCS alumni squad.
Katie Rogers had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the alumni.
Men’s basketball
Zach Humphrey scored 16 points to lead the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch to a 69-62 non-conference victory over the Green River Gators at Auburn, Wash.
Derek Gianukakis added 13 points, while Griffon Jones had 11 for CC Spokane (6-3). Brad Johnson pulled down 10 rebounds and Kevin Cameron handed out eight assists.
Cory Toombs led Green River (3-4) with 15 points, while Giovani Lee scored 12 and Jake Wilcox had 10 assists.
