Pirates honored

Whitworth University senior Kelly Baker was named to the 2008 NSCAA/Adidas Women’s NCAA Division III All-America third team on Tuesday.

Baker and three of her Pirates soccer teammates were named to the Division III All-West Region first team.

Baker, a defender, was joined by junior midfielder Lindsey Oakes, senior forward Penelope Crowe and senior forward Whitney Ramsey (North Central High).

Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) freshman Jimmy Day made his first varsity start at 140 pounds a memorable one.

Day notched a takedown with 30 second remaining in the third period to pull out an 8-6 victory over Nick Martin and help the Lakeside Eagles roll to a 49-21 win over the visiting West Valley Eagles.

Heavyweight Ben Fuson benefited from a stall call late in the match to defeat WV’s Havhannes Melkown 3-2.

Clarkston 58, Colville 22: Nick King jumped out to an 18-0 lead and breezed to a 19-5 major decision in the 215-pound class and the Bantams cruised past the Indians in Colville.
