William Johnson graduates from Air Force Academy
William Johnson recently graduated from the United States Air Force Academy, with a degree in Engineering Mechanics. He graduated from University High School in 2004 and is the son of Michael and Connie Johnson of Spokane Valley.
•Five local residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.
Air National Guard Airman Bryceson Charlton is the son of Donald Charlton of Harrington, Wash., and graduated in 2007 from Harrington High School.
Air Force Airman Christopher Brindley is the son of Tammy Schneider of Spokane, and Terry Brindley of Kelso, Wash. He is a 2005 graduate of Mead High School.
Air Force Airman Ashley Blake graduated from Rogers High School in 2006 and is the daughter of Ron Blake and Laurie Palmer, both of Spokane.
Air Force Airman Dakota Johnson is the son of James and Stephanie Johnson of Spokane and graduated from Rogers High School in 2008.
Air Force Airman 1st Class Brent Elliott is the son of Brian and Julie Elliott of Cheney.
•Two area residents have been commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army, after they completed the Army ROTC program and graduated from Washington State University.
Nancy Shinkle is the daughter of Albert and Sara Shinkle of Pullman and graduated in 2001 from Port Angeles High School.
Matthew Yamamoto graduated from Warden High School in 2004 and is the son of Harry and Shirley Yamamoto of Warden, Wash.
•Two residents graduated from the Infantryman One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consists of basic infantry training and advanced individual training.
Army Pvt. Brady Lyon is the son of James Lyon and Marina Lyon, both of Spokane.
Army National Guard Pvt. Samuel Lane is the son of Robert and Julie Lane of Deer Park and graduated in 2007 from Deer Park High School.
•Washington State University recently announced local students awarded scholarships for the 2008-09 academic year.
Christina Liu was awarded a $3,000 Burgess Brothers Memorial Scholarship and a $1,200 Music Scholarship. She graduated in 2006 from Cheney High School and is the daughter of Conrad and Michelle Liu of Cheney.
The following students received a $1,000 College of Education Scholarship.
Janelle Tewel is the daughter of Randy and Stacie Probst of Spokane, and graduated from Mead High School in 2004.
Stephanie Simmons is a 2005 Kettle Falls High School graduate and is the daughter of Steven and Annette Simmons of Kettle Falls, Wash.
Bryan Lynch graduated in 2006 from Mead High School and is the son of Jeff and Lynn Lynch of Spokane.
Logan Callen received a $2,500 Auvil Undergraduate Scholars Fellowship. He is a 2001 Lewis and Clark High School graduate, and the son of William Callen of Spokane and Jeannette Park of Seattle.
Rachel Hamilton was awarded a $1,000 Carson Center of Business Scholarship. She is the daughter of Donna Hamilton of Spokane, and a 2005 West Valley High School graduate.
Kevin Dainty was awarded a $1,000 Ruth and Fred Schroeder Scholarship. He graduated in 2006 from LaCrosse High School, and is the son of Wayne and Monica Dainty of LaCrosse, Wash.
Rachel Shaw received a $500 Ruth and Fred Schroeder Scholarship. She is the daughter of Jerry and Diane Shaw of Spokane, and graduated in 2005 from East Valley High School.
Jason Jackson was awarded a $4,000 College of Engineering and Architecture Scholarship from the Eve Rockwell Little Trust Fund. He graduated from Mead High School in 2008, and is the son of Ron and Eileen Jackson of Spokane.
Bonni Kealy received a $1,500 Sidney G. and Evelyn Hacker Fellowship for Graduate Teaching. She is the daughter of George and Gloria Kealy of Spokane, and graduated in 2001 from Mt. Spokane High School.
•The Spokane Valley Rotary Club awarded $750 scholarships to each of the following local students.
