Pickler out

Hamstring injury ends her Games

From news services

Former Washington State Cougar Diana Pickler didn’t make it past the second event of the heptathlon at the Summer Olympics, failing to compete in the high jump after pulling her right hamstring in the 100-meter hurdles today in Beijing.

She was 36th after the first event, finishing the 100 hurdles in 14.28 seconds, far off her best of 13.13.

•Another past WSU athlete, Anson Henry, competing for Canada, finished fourth in his heat of the men’s 100 first-round preliminaries in 10.37 and qualified for the next round of heats.

•Former University of Idaho Vandal Joachim Olsen of Demark threw the shot put 64 feet, 91/4 inches, a season best for him but well off his personal best, and failed to advance to the finals.
