These United States will win
Taking influences as much from Walt Whitman as Wilco, there’s some strange allure behind the aural structures built by These United States.
The D.C. psych-folk Lit-pop collective have crafted a dense, yet understated, brand of orchestral roots-rock that is held together with the deft lyricism of Jesse Elliot.
There is usually at least one touring act show during the week at Caterina Winery that should be deemed mandatory for fans high-caliber acoustic music.
The next one is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the winery, 905 N. Washington St., when Joel Smith and The Hands of Plenty supports These United States. Cover is $6.

Palms opening for Sub Pop homie
Palms makes otherworldly experimental laptop rock that exists on its own plane of reality. It’s brilliant, stupefying, and physically painful if taken in without ear plugs.
Make sure you wear proper ear protection if you get a dose of Palms with Sub Pop’s Tiny Vipers, who plays gentle, haunting, acoustic ambience, on Saturday at 7 pm. at Empyrean Coffee House, 154 S. Madison St.
