Area residents graduate from basic military training

The following five residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Air National Guard Airman Brian Jacob is the son of Mark Jacob of Medical Lake, and is a 2005 graduate of Medical Lake High School.

Air Force Airman Ryan Froberg graduated from Mt. Spokane High School in Mead in 2003, and is the son of Dean and Shari Froberg of Spokane.

Air Force Airman Tyson Galland is a 2006 graduate of Cheney High School, and is the son of Kenneth and Christina Galland of Spokane.

Air Force Airman Amber Drewer is the daughter of Penney Drewer of Endicott, Wash., and graduated from Colfax High School in 2007.

Air Force Airman Matthew Wienckoski is the son of Darin Wienckoski of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Kathi Simmons of Spokane Valley. He graduated from Apache Junction High School in 2007.

•Two area residents graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga.

Army Pvt. Nicholas Clevenger is the son of Michelle Clevenger of Chattaroy, and graduated from Mead Senior High School in 2002.

Army Reserve Pvt. Luke Pederson is the son of Kye Pederson of Spokane.

•Army National Guard Pvt. Aaron Campbell recently graduated from the infantryman one station unit training at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga. The training consists of basic infantry training and advanced individual training.

Campbell is the son of David Campbell of Ocean Park, Wash., and Susie Hunt of Newport, Wash.

•The following Spokane residents graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) leader’s training course at Fort Knox, Ky.

Patrick Daly graduated from North Central High School in 2002 and is the son of Kaye Daly of Spokane.

Jordan Hinkle is the son of Kim Melcher and Todd Hinkle, both of Spokane. He graduated from Shadle Park High School in 2006.

•Army Pvt. Robinson Ellis graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

He is the son of Jeffrey Ellis of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Rose Ellis of Spokane.

Ellis earned distinction as an honor graduate.

Megan Barnwell graduated from the Uniformed Services University, F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine in Bethesda, Md. She was promoted to the rank of captain and commissioned as an officer in the Army.

She is the daughter of Loren and Patricia Woehrle of Spokane Valley.

Melissa Priester of Fort Lewis, Wash., was promoted to major in the Army Reserves. She is head nurse of the recovery room at Madigan Army Medical Center at Fort Lewis. She graduated from Ferris High School in 1995 and is the daughter of Keith Holcomb and Janice Holcomb, both of Spokane.

Becky Harris of Spokane received a $1,500 Chris Hanly Memorial Aviation Scholarship. She will be a senior at Ferris High School and is also a Running Start student at Spokane Falls Community College.

•Eastern Washington University recently announced students awarded scholarships for the 2008-09 academic year.

Daniella Rodriguez received a $1,200 Helen and Martin Terzieff Scholarship. She is the daughter of George and Judy Rodriguez of Newman Lake, and is a graduate of East Valley High School.

Rebecca Pike is a recipient of a $1,200 Helen and Martin Terzieff Scholarship. She is a graduate of North Central High School, and is the daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Pike of Spokane.

Alexis McDuffie was awarded a $1,500 Wittenbach Trust Scholarship. She is the daughter of Gregory and Colleen Butler of Spokane, and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 2003.

Rachel Kintner received a $250 Eleanor and Clifton Rock Book Scholarship. She is the daughter of Myra Cameron of Spokane, and is a 1994 graduate of North Central High School.

Caitlin Sybouts was awarded a $300 Anne Harder Wyatt Music Scholarship. She is a graduate of Ferris High School, and is the daughter of Michael and Cheryl Sybouts of Spokane.

Ryan Desmond was the recipient of a $1,175 Philip D. Grub Art Scholarship. He is the son of Doug and Sara Desmond of Colbert and a graduate of Mt. Spokane High School.

Staci Huffman was awarded a $1,800 Peter Bozanich Scholarship. She graduated from Shadle Park High School and is the daughter of Donald and Linda Metler of Spokane.

Alyssa Henderson was awarded a $2,000 Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship. She is the daughter of Robert and Joanne Henderson of Spokane, and graduated from Rogers High School.

Holly Dempsen of Greenacres received a $475 Harold and Verna Kleiner Scholarship. She is the daughter of Mark and Rebecca Dempsen of Mead, and was home-schooled. She received her GED through Spokane Falls Community College.
