Yankees 5, Indians 2: At Cleveland, Mike Mussina allowed two runs and seven hits in five innings to help New York defeat the Indians. Hideki Matsui had two RBIs as New York earned a split of the four-game series after losing the first two. Mussina was followed by Jonathan Albaladejo, Kyle Farnsworth, Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera, who worked the ninth for his eighth save in eight tries.

Athletics 14, Angels 2: At Anaheim, Calif., Daric Barton hit a three-run homer to help Oakland beat Los Angeles. Jack Hannahan and Emil Brown also homered for the Athletics. Oakland came into this series with just nine home runs through 26 games. Chad Gaudin breezed to his third straight victory, allowing two runs – one earned – and five hits over six innings with four strikeouts.

Orioles 3, White Sox 3 (11): At Chicago, Baltimore and the White Sox were tied at 3 when play was suspended after 11 innings because of rain. The game will resume later this season, but no date was immediately announced. All the statistics count.
