Big Sky: D-II Chadron State puts hurt on Northern Colorado
Danny Woodhead scored three touchdowns as Division II Chadron State rolled to a 31-0 win Saturday over Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.
Woodhead finished with 147 yards rushing against Northern Colorado of the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA. Woodhead, last year’s Harlon Hill Trophy winner as the top player in Division II, also caught five passes for 133 yards.
Joe McLain completed 19 of 28 passes for 265 yards and an interception for Chadron State. He also had a 1-yard run for a touchdown.
UC Davis 26, Portland State 17: At Portland, Tim Plough threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns and the Aggies spoiled coach Jerry Glanville’s home debut with a victory over the Vikings.
After Emmanuel Benjamin’s 39-yard-field goal put UC Davis ahead 19-17, Plough hit Luke McDonough with a 31-yard touchdown pass, stunning the crowd of 12,022 that had come out to see the new high-profile coach of the Vikings.
Idaho State 37, Southern Oregon 11: At Pocatello, Idaho, freshman quarterback Russel Hill completed 20 of 31 passes, including one for a 70-yard touchdown, as the Bengals opened their season with a victory over the Red Raiders (1-2).
Senior running back Josh Barrett had 140 yards on 14 carries for the Bengals, and Eddie Thompson led the receivers with nine receptions for 103 yards.
Montana 49, Fort Lewis 0: At Missoula, Lex Hilliard rushed for three first-quarter touchdowns and Cole Bergquist completed all 13 of his passes for 163 yards and a touchdown as the third-ranked Grizzlies roughed up Division II Fort Lewis.
