Achievements: Airmen complete basic training

Three area residents recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Air National Guard Airman Kathryn Conrad is the daughter of Daniel and Carolyn Conrad of Spokane Valley and is a 2006 graduate of University High School.

Air National Guard Airman Dustin Flock graduated from Tekoa High School in 2007 and is the son of Timothy Flock of Tekoa, Wash., and Marie Flock of Pullman.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Lonnie Mitchell is the son of Lonnie and Elisha Mitchell of Spokane and is a 2005 graduate of Ferris High School.

Patricia Shea of Spokane recently received her pilot’s license at the Boundary County Airport in Bonners Ferry, Idaho.

“Community Colleges of Spokane Foundation recently announced the recipients of its Exceptional Faculty Awards.

The winners are:

Pam Austin, counselor to multicultural students and the adviser to the Red Nations Native American student organization at Spokane Falls Community College

Kellie Fischer, communications instructor in both English and chemistry at SFCC.

Pam Meyers, music instructor at SFCC.

Judy Noel, special education and paraeducator instructor at SFCC.

Andy Buddington , geology instructor at Spokane Community College.

Denise (Dennie) Carlson, applied education instructor at SCC.

Ginny Powers, business and management instructor at SCC.

Lisa Wolfe, business technology instructor at SCC.

Nina Beegle, GED reading instructor at the Institute for Extended Learning.

Susan Coffee, computer and business technology instructor at the IEL’s Republic Education Center.

Karen Snell, English as a second language instructor at the IEL.

Lisa Williams, SCC college prep instructor.

Meghan Johnson of Spokane was awarded the Glen L. Jackson Memorial Scholarship and two Delta Gamma scholarships for the 2007-2008 academic year from Oregon State University. Johnson graduated from Gonzaga Prep in 2005.

Dr. Christina Gilchrist was recently appointed director of research for WellSpan Health of York in Pennsylvania. She graduated from Mead High School in 1992.

Branden Ogorek of Chattaroy was awarded a $1,000 Global Automotive Aftermarket Symposium Scholarship for the 2007-2008 academic year. Ogorek is attending Wyotech in Laramie, Wyo.

Siri Ashworth of Spokane, a structural engineer at Coffman Engineers Spokane, recently received a Structural Engineers Association of Washington Scholarship.

Sarah Engan-Thurman of Spokane received a $2,250 Dale Wilson Scholarship for the current academic year.

Lauren Harris of Spokane was awarded a $2,000 Seattle Business Forum Scholarship at Western Washington University for this academic year. She is the daughter of Steve and Ruth Harris of Spokane.

“The following students recently received President’s scholarships from Western Washington University for the current academic year.

Chris Jackson was awarded $1,000. He is a graduate of University High School and the son of Andrew Jackson of Veradale and Kathy Jackson of Post Falls.

Rashelle Conely of Spokane received a $1,000 award. She is the daughter of Bruce and Sophia Conely and is a graduate of Mt. Spokane High School.

Gregory Jilek was awarded $1,000. He is a Shadle Park High School graduate and the son of Jean Zbaracki-Jilek.

Hillary Landers received a $1,500 award. She is the daughter of Rich Landers and Meredith Heick and a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School.

Erin Lawhead received a $1,500 award. She graduated from Shadle Park High School and is the daughter of J.F. and Nancy Lawhead.

Caitlin Wolfe was awarded $500. She is the daughter of Michael and Lisa Wolfe and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School.
