Trying to make a clean start

From Wire Reports The Spokesman-Review

Fresh out of rehab, Lindsay Lohan plans on staying sober – and out of L.A.

The 21-year-old actress on Friday checked out of a Utah treatment center she had entered in August after reaching a plea deal on drunken driving and cocaine possession charges.

“It was humbling,” she tells OK! magazine. “It made me look at myself, and all of the people, places and things in my life in a different way.

“I’m staying in Utah until it’s time to shoot (the upcoming film) ‘Dare to Love Me,’ and then I plan on returning to Utah so I can stay focused and avoid other distractions.”

Lohan – who recently reunited with her father, Michael Lohan, after a 3 1/2 -year estrangement – tells In Touch Weekly that her parents’ divorce triggered her behavior.

“The trouble in my family resulted in me rebelling and doing things to get my parents’ attention,” she says.

“But all in all, it’s better for me now to have them (in my life). It’s healthy.”

Not so for some of her old friends, she adds: “The people who want to go out and party, that’s not what I am about now.”

Her baby’s back

One good thing has emerged from Britney Spears‘ child-custody travails: She and her mom, Lynne Spears, have apparently patched up their differences.

The elder Spears flew to California from Louisiana over the weekend to be with her embattled offspring, reports People.com. The two had been on the outs since June.

In the pink

On the celebrity baby beat, it’s a girl for actor Nick Nolte, 66, and his longtime partner, Clytie Lane; and also for Mexican pop star and soap opera actress Thalia and her husband, former Sony Music chairman Tommy Mottola.

Common-blah marriage

“Desperate Housewives” star Ricardo Chavira and his longtime girlfriend were quietly married in a private ceremony last month – in their pajamas.

The couple’s 4-year-old son acted as best man and ring bearer, according to Chavira’s publicist, and they chose to attend his soccer game instead of having a reception.

Give peace a luminance

Yoko Ono on Tuesday unveiled the Imagine Peace Tower on Iceland’s Videy Island on what would have been late husband John Lennon‘s 67th birthday.

The former Beatle was shot dead outside their New York apartment building Dec. 8, 1980, by deranged fan Mark David Chapman.

The tower is a stories-tall beam of light that will radiate from a wishing well bearing the words “imagine peace” in 24 languages.

Plans call for it to be lit each year between Oct. 9 and Dec. 8.
