Going once: pieces of history

One of the first things we did when we moved to Spokane was to go to Art Fest in Browne’s Addition.
On our way to the Museum of Arts and Culture, we enjoyed looking at the grand old homes and ornate cottages in the neighborhood.
One house in particular caught my eye. Surrounded by a beautiful rose garden, the beautiful Fotheringham House looked like something out of a picture book.
The house, which has been a bed and breakfast for years, has been sold and will go back to being a private residence.
That’s where Treasure Hunt comes in.
If you’ve been thinking about doing a little antiques shopping or even dreaming about starting your own Bed and Breakfast, you might want to free up a little time on Sunday.
The contents of the historic house will be sold at auction at Owens and Company Auctions in Spokane Valley.
“For anyone who wants to set up a B&B, this could be one-stop shopping,” Jeff Owens says. “Just about everything you could possibly need will come through this sale.”
The sale also will feature the contents of several other estates.
“I’m looking at things that haven’t been through an auction in a very long time,” Owens says. “Some of them are outstanding.”
More than 1,000 items that will be offered for sale, including an exquisite Italian inlay desk.
In addition to bedroom furniture from the Fotheringham House, Owens says there are rugs, lamps and accessories.
“There are five armoires, Victorian sofas and all of the Victorian style lamps that were in the rooms,” Owens says. “
“It is more than the beds, bedding and quilts, and we’ve even got robes,” Owens says. “Like any auction, you never know what you’ll find.”
I love going to the auction. It’s always fun.
I’d rather be a guest than operate a bed and breakfast, but I’m thinking I might have to stop by the sale this weekend.
I like breakfast in bed. And you never know what you’ll find at the auction.
