Washington preps: Skillingstad perfect in win
Shadle Park’s Sam Skillingstad pitched a perfect game, striking out 16 of the 21 batters she faced, as the Highlanders blanked Moses Lake 7-0 Friday at the 4A regional tournament at the Columbia Playfields in Richland.
Allie Burger had four hits and Tressa Predisik hit a two-run home run to lead Shadle’s offense.
In other 4A regional action, Pasco’s Jessica Solbrack held Mead hitless after the first inning and the Bulldogs beat the Panthers 5-2. Melanie Mobley hit a two-run double in the first to give Mead a 2-0 lead. Pasco advances to play Shadle (22-1) today at 10 a.m. while Mead (15-9) and Moses Lake will play in a loser-out game at noon. … Richland scored three runs in the bottom of the 12th and beat Central Valley 10-9. The Bears scored two runs in the top of the inning to go ahead 9-7 but the Bombers ended it in the bottom of the inning. … Walla Walla scored three runs in the first and third innings and beat University 6-1. Ali Warren had two hits, including a solo homer, to lead the Titans. U-Hi (18-5) will play CV (15-9) today in a loser-out game while Richland and Walla Walla will play for a chance at a state berth.
“Liberty’s Jessica Mangis pitched a complete-game two-hitter while striking out 12 as the Lancers topped Davenport 4-1 in the District 7 2B championship game at Kettle Falls. Mangis also had three hits and scored twice. The Lancers advance to the state tournament, which runs Friday and next Saturday at Gateway Sports Complex in Yakima, as the top seed. The Gorillas are the second seed. … In other tournament action at Kettle Falls, Lind-Ritzville wrapped up the third seed after beating Springdale 6-2. Jamie Helms picked up the win for the Broncos after pitching a complete-game two-hitter. The Chargers are the fourth seed to the state tournament. Lind-Ritzville beat Northwest Christian 12-8 earlier in the day. The Crusaders’ season is over. … Springdale eliminated Selkirk after beating the Redskins 7-3 in an earlier game. Amanda Krieg earned the win for the Chargers after pitching the complete game.
