PREP ROUNDUP: KF, Colfax move into semifinals
Kettle Falls and Colfax won their first-round games Thursday and advanced to the semifinals of the District 6/7 1A regional softball tournament at Kettle Falls High.
Naiomi Daniels pitched a complete-game one-hitter while striking out 15 as Kettle Falls beat Okanogan 3-0. The Bulldogs’ Chelsea Brisbois had two hits, including an RBI double.
Colfax beat Omak 4-3. Jordan Harazin hit an inside-the-park solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Bulldogs the win. The Pioneers scored two runs in the top of the inning to tie the game at 3 before Harazin’s blast won it for Colfax.
In other tournament action, Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) stayed alive with a 14-2 win over Okanogan in five innings. Lacey Jordan went 3 for 3 and drove in two runs to lead the Eagles. Jordan also picked up the win after allowing four hits in the complete game. … Kettle Falls (16-8) advances to play Chelan Saturday while Colfax (16-6) will play Cascade (Leavenworth). Both games are at noon in Kettle Falls. Lakeside (15-6) will play the loser between Colfax and Cascade at 2 p.m.
Track and field
Cheney’s Griffon Jones won the shot put with a toss of 158 feet on the first day of the District 7 2A meet at Cheney High School. The two-day meet concludes today.
“Tekoa-Oakesdale/Rosalia’s Ashley Stabl won the 300-meter hurdles in 46.4 seconds as the Nighthawks sit in third place with 41 points after the first day of competition at the District 9 1B meet in Walla Walla.
Boys tennis
Sprague-Harrington’s Bryceson Charlton earned the top seed to the state tournament after beating Reardan’s Tim Eggleston 6-1, 6-1 in the District 7 1A/B tournament at Ferris High School. Eggleston will play Sam King of St. George’s today to determine the second and third seeds. In doubles, Nick Tellez and Alex Morley of Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) beat Sprague-Harrington’s Rex Rieth and Terry Kissler 6-2, 6-0 to wrap up the top seed. Lakeside’s Nathan Vantine and Mason McCann then beat Rieth and Kissler 6-2, 6-0 to steal the second seed. Rieth and Kissler are the third seed. The state tournament runs May 25-26 at the Yakima Tennis Center.
Girls tennis
Jamie Larmer of Sprague-Harrington defeated Davenport’s Mallory Mielke 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in the District 7 1A/B championship at Ferris match to claim the top seed to the state tournament. Mielke then beat St. George’s Soon Lee 6-4, 6-1 to grab the No. 2 seed. Lee earned the third seed after defeating Davenport’s Jennifer Curley 6-4, 6-1. Curley is the fourth seed. Seedings for girls doubles will be determined today.
