Some libraries go digital with new network cards
Getting a library card has gone digital.
More than 20 libraries in North Idaho and Eastern Washington now have online applications that can be filled out at a remote computer or at the library’s catalog station.
Applicants still must show photo identification and proof of address at the library to activate their Cooperative Information Network card, which can be used at more than 20 libraries in the network, according to a Coeur d’Alene Public Library news release.
Paper applications still may be filled out at the libraries, but online applications are more efficient and accurate, the news release said.
Library cards usually are free for residents and nonresidents who have a valid library card from another library.
Without a card from another library, nonresidents must pay an annual $25 fee.
CIN cardholders can access their library accounts online to request items from other CIN libraries, place holds on books and renew checked-out items.
