Red Sox 8, Blue Jays 0: At Toronto, Tim Wakefield pitched seven sharp innings and Boston roughed up Roy Halladay in sending the Blue Jays to their ninth straight loss. Mike Lowell homered for the third consecutive game for Boston, which has won seven of eight.

Orioles 11, Devil Rays 6: At Baltimore, Kevin Millar homered and drove in four runs and Corey Patterson had three hits and three RBIs in a win over Tampa Bay. Baltimore set a season high for runs and moved into second place in the A.L. East with its fifth win in seven games.

Athletics 17, Royals 3: At Kansas City, Mo., Dan Johnson and Jack Cust each homered twice as Oakland routed Kansas City. Danny Putnam hit his first major league home run and Eric Chavez also connected for Oakland.

White Sox 3, Twins 0: At Minneapolis, Jose Contreras pitched a five-hitter for his second career shutout and Chicago defeated Minnesota for its fourth win in five games. A.J. Pierzynski, Ryan Sweeney and Pablo Ozuna had RBI singles.

Rangers 14, Yankees 2: At New York, Texas’ Brandon McCarthy limited New York to one run in 5 1/3 innings and pinch-hitter Victor Diaz hit his first career grand slam. Mark Teixeira had four hits, three doubles and three RBIs for the Rangers. Rangers closer Eric Gagne pitched a perfect ninth.

Angels 8, Indians 0: At Anaheim, Calif., Kelvim Escobar pitched a seven-hitter and Gary Matthews Jr. hit a three-run homer in the third inning as Los Angeles defeated Cleveland. Escobar struck out nine and walked none to win his third straight start.
