Montana’s Baily Cox vaulted from fourth place to win the heptathlon on Thursday at the Big Sky Conference championships in Pocatello, Idaho,

Cox, a junior from Wilbur, Wash., posted a total of 5,193 points. Eastern Washington University’s Jessica Duran was eighth (4,506).

“ Molly Burt led a 3-4-5 Idaho finish in the heptathlon and the Vandals women took the early lead in the Western Athletic Conference track and field championships in Fresno, Calif.

Burt’s 4,834-point total led freshmen teammates Darcy Collins (Kootenai) (4,740) and Lindsay Goodman (4,593) as the Vandals notched 15 team points, three ahead of Hawaii which had the individual champion in Annette Wichmann (5,557). In the men’s decathlon, Utah State’s John Strang was the winner with 6,770 points, while UI’s Ian Snook was third (6,149).

Women’s golf

Washington State is tied for eighth at 17-over 301 after the first day of the NCAA West Regional at Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club in St. George, Utah. Sophomore Jessica Black is tied for ninth after shooting a 72 to lead the Cougars.

Idaho is tied for 11th. The Vandals were led by juniors Renee Skidmore and Kelly Nakashima, who both shot 3-over-par 74s.

Stanford leads the tournament at 3-over 287.
