In brief: Retail space focus of public meeting

A proposal to build more than 140,000 square feet of retail space on North Nevada Street will be the subject of a public meeting next Thursday at the Nevada-Lidgerwood Neighborhood Council facility at 4707 N. Addison St.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. to talk about traffic that would be generated by the project at 9257 N. Nevada St.

The project involves a 95,000-square-foot retail building and an adjacent building of 38,500 square feet for additional commercial or office use.

Free dump passes available

The Northwest Neighborhood Association will offer 100 free dump passes Saturday and Monday at the COPS Northwest, 2215 W. Wellesley Ave., Suite D, starting at 10 a.m.

The passes will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and will be good through May 27.

The Northwest Neighborhood includes the area west of Ash Street to the Spokane River and is bound by Francis Avenue on the north to Fairview Avenue, and Belt Street and Indiana Avenue on the south.

The passes are for residents of this neighborhood only and proof of residence will be required.

Miss Spokane benefit concert

The second annual Miss Spokane’s Outstanding Teen Benefit Concert will be May 18 at CenterStage, 1017 W. First Ave.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the evening will include performers Kristen Marlo, Danny Weber, Matt Russel, Logan Heftel and Jonathan Nicholsen.

Concessions will be available. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.

Spring Garden Expo Saturday

The Inland Empire Gardeners will present the eighth annual Spring Garden Expo Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

More than 200 garden-related businesses and organizations will be at this event, and there will be free seminars and demonstrations throughout the day.

The event will be in the Lair Building of Spokane Community College, 1810 N. Greene St.
