THE SLICE
There are two kinds of families.
One plays board games and cards. The other doesn’t.
This would not be a big deal, except for one thing. Often, in the course of their busy lives, young men and women from these radically different households notice one another. You know where that can lead.
Sometimes the person from the games-free tribe becomes a willing convert. Or the individual from the card-playing clan happily gives up shuffling the deck and shouting “Uno!”
Or so it seems. I suspect that, after a time, most people revert to their family-of-origin preference mode.
Thus, husbands and wives can be heard to say, “So are we just going to sit here?” or “Do you mind if we don’t play Risk when they get here?”
One side will prevail. It has to be that way. After all, the kids will need to know which sort of family they’re in.
