Taylor leads Mercury to win
MINNEAPOLIS – Penny Taylor scored 30 points Wednesday for the Phoenix Mercury, who handed the Minnesota Lynx a franchise record-tying 10th straight loss, 103-79.
Diana Taurasi added 19 points and six assists for the Mercury, who extended their WNBA record by scoring 100 points for the fifth time this season.
Phoenix won for the third time in four games and moved into a tie with Sacramento for second place in the Western Conference, two games behind San Antonio.
Seimone Augustus scored 13 points – 11 in the second half – for the Lynx, who also lost 10 straight when they dropped the final three games of 2006 and the first seven this season.
Tiffany Stansbury had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota. The Lynx, the WNBA’s youngest team with an average age of 23.6 years, fell to a WNBA-worst 5-20.
Phoenix (14-10), which entered averaging 87.0 points per game, finished 25 for 28 at the free-throw line.
