NHL: Crosby, Recchi lead red-hot Penguins past Coyotes

Sidney Crosby and Mark Recchi each had a goal and three assists to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a 7-2 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night in Glendale, Ariz.

Ryan Malone, Maxime Talbot, Ryan Whitney, Jarkko Ruutu, and Ronald Petrovicky also scored, and Sergei Gonchar added a pair of assists for the Penguins, who have won five of six.

Shane Doan and Steve Reinprecht scored for the Coyotes, who have lost 5 of 8 since winning a season-best seven straight.

Islanders 5, Sabres 3: At Uniondale, N.Y., Randy Robitaille scored with 3:09 left in regulation to help rally New York to a victory over Buffalo.

Andy Hilbert added an insurance goal with 53.9 seconds left.

Rangers 2, Flyers 1: At Philadelphia, Jason Krog’s tie-breaking goal 3:49 into the third period gave New York a win over Philadelphia, sending the Flyers to their ninth straight loss.

Jaromir Jagr also scored for the Rangers.

Senators 3, Bruins 1: At Ottawa, Ray Emery made 29 saves, and Patrick Eaves and Chris Neil scored third-period goals to help Ottawa beat Boston.

Capitals 7, Hurricanes 3: At Washington, Alexander Semin had two goals and an assist and Alex Ovechkin extended his point-scoring streak to 11 games as the Capitals beat Carolina.

Ovechkin had a goal and an assist.

Blue Jackets 3, Wild 2: At Columbus, Ohio, Rostislav Klesla had a goal and an assist as Columbus held on for a win over Minnesota.

Brian Rolston and Pascal Dupuis scored for the Wild.

Maple Leafs 4, Canadiens 1: At Toronto, defenseman Pavel Kubina scored twice to lead the Maple Leafs over Montreal.

Mats Sundin and Jeff O’Neill scored power-play goals for the Maple Leafs.

Panthers 4, Devils 2: At Sunrise, Fla., Rostislav Olesz scored twice and Joel Kwiatkowski had the game-winner as Florida beat New Jersey.

Ed Belfour had 29 saves for Florida.

Predators 6, Blues 3: At St. Louis, Martin Erat and Steve Sullivan scored two goals apiece to lead Nashville to a victory over the Blues.

The Predators rallied from a 2-1 deficit after the first period with goals from Sullivan and Jason Arnott in the first 5:45 of the second.

Oilers 4, Kings 3: At Edmonton, Alberta, Ryan Smyth had two goals and two assists and Ales Hemsky added a goal and three assists as Edmonton snapped a two game losing skid with a victory over Los Angeles.

Backup goalie Jussi Markkanen stopped 32 shots for the Oilers.

Hall of Fame goalie dies

Gump Worsley, the Hall of Fame goalie who didn’t wear a mask until the final season of his 21-year NHL career, died Saturday at his home in Beloeil, Montreal. He was 77.
