Retreat on grief

The Immaculate Heart Retreat Center will host a series of retreats focusing on dealing with the grieving process. Retreat leaders include physicians, chaplains and representatives from Hospice of Spokane.

The retreat will be offered Feb. 2-4, April 27-29 and June 1-3, from 7 p.m. Friday through 1 p.m. Sunday. Participants are welcome to attend once or multiple times.

Priest speaks on Islam

The Rev. Patrick Baraza will present a two-part lecture on understanding Islam on Thursday and Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. at Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall St.

Baraza, a Catholic priest, is a visiting professor of religious studies at Gonzaga University. He has been stationed in Kenya, the Middle East and the Philippines.

Apartheid lecture, film

Weldon Merritt, an American observer of the reconciliation at the end of apartheid in South Africa, will speak Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Unity Church at 29th Avenue and Bernard Street.

“Long Night’s Journey into Day,” a film about the end of apartheid, also will be shown. The evening will be preceded by dinner at 5:45 p.m.

The cost of the meal is $4 for adults, $3 for seniors and $2 for children. Admission to the program is by donation. Call (509) 838-6518 for more information.

Images of Holy Land

The Rev. Arthur Houk will show pictures of his three trips to the Holy Land, including Jericho, Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Nazareth, on Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Arden Faith Baptist Church, 673 Arden Hill Road in Colville.

Soul power workshop

Mary Manin Morrisey of the Living Enrichment Center in Wilsonville, Ore., will present a workshop called “The Four Shamanic Canons” on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Unity Center, 4123 E. Lincoln Road.

The workshop will cover the “Four Universal Practices” that become portals to the soul.
