NHL : Bruins top Penguins on Kessel’s shootout goal

Phil Kessel scored the game-winner in the shootout and Marc Savard had a goal and two assists to lead the Boston Bruins to a 5-4 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday in Boston.

The Bruins climbed back from deficits of 2-0 and 4-3 to beat the Penguins for the ninth straight time.

Glen Murray, Brad Stuart and Marco Sturm also scored for Boston.

Evgeni Malkin scored twice and Jordan Staal and Ryan Malone each added goals for the Penguins.

Canadiens 4, Thrashers 1: At Atlanta, Montreal found the net for the first time in three games, and All-Star Cristobal Huet made 44 saves to lead the Canadiens past Atlanta.

Islanders 4, Flyers 2: At Philadelphia, Mike Sillinger and Andy Hilbert scored 1:18 apart early in the third period to help New York beat Philadelphia.

Capitals 5, Hurricanes 2: At Raleigh, N.C., Alexander Semin and Chris Clark scored two goals apiece to lead Washington over Carolina.

Olaf Kolzig had 34 saves for his 260th career win.

Canucks 2, Senators 1: At Ottawa, Roberto Luongo made 34 saves, Rory Fitzpatrick scored his first goal of the season and Vancouver beat Ottawa.

Taylor Pyatt had a goal and an assist for Vancouver.

Maple Leafs 3, Panthers 2: At Sunrise, Fla., Andrew Raycroft stopped 39 shots and Toronto defeated Florida.

Boyd Devereaux, Chad Kilger and John Pohl scored goals for the Leafs.

Lightning 3, Devils 2 (SO): At East Rutherford, N.J., Brad Richards scored both goals in regulation and had the only tally in the shootout to lead Tampa Bay to a victory over New Jersey.

Predators 4, Blue Jackets 0: At Nashville, Tenn., Chris Mason made 33 saves for his fifth shutout this season, and David Legwand and Paul Kariya each had a goal and an assist as Nashville beat Columbus.

Oilers 4, Ducks 1: At Edmonton, Alberta, Ryan Smyth had two goals and an assist to lead Edmonton over Anaheim.

Jason Smith and Toby Petersen also scored for the Oilers.

Sharks 5, Coyotes 2: At San Jose, Calif., Patrick Marleau had a goal and two assists, and San Jose beat Phoenix.

Vesa Toskala made 23 saves for the Sharks.

Blues 3, Kings 1: At Los Angeles, Dallas Drake scored twice in a 2:32 span of the first period and St. Louis defeated Los Angeles.

Bill Guerin also scored for the Blues.

All-Star captains named

Joe Sakic of the Colorado Avalanche (West) and Brendan Shanahan of the New York Rangers (East) will be the captains in the NHL All-Star game next week.
