Juliana Sobczyk made 1 of 2 free throws with 13 seconds left to give Genessee a 41-40 non-league win over Kootenai on Monday night in Harrison.
The finish was frantic. With 40 seconds to go, Hannah Nyrop hit two free throws to give Kootenai (10-1) a three-point lead, only to see Jordan Udy hit a 3-pointer for Genessee for a 40-40 tie with 18 seconds remainin.
After a Kootenai turnover, Genessee got the ball back, Sobczyk was fouled and hit the game winner. Kootenai had one final shot, but Cassie Scheffelmaier’s runner in the lane just missed the mark.
Udy’s 10 points led Genessee. Scheffelmaier led Kootenai with 15 points, 11 rebounds, five steals and five assists. Nyrop and Emily Frank added 10 points each.
•Katie Worley scored 23 points for Valley Christian, but it wasn’t to save the Panthers from a 44-41 loss to Almira/Coulee-Hartline in a rescheduled Bi-County League game. The game was originally scheduled for tonight.
ACH had three double-figure scorers led by Andrea Edwards with 14 points.
