Rabbits sweep Vandals
BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State snapped a four-game losing streak Saturday, getting 17 points and nine rebounds from Kai Williams in a 70-59 basketball win over Idaho.
The last win by the Jackrabbits (4-6) was a 76-58 win at Idaho on Nov. 28.
Williams was 6 for 8 from the free-throw line. SDSU made 22 of 29 free throws, while Idaho was just 7 for 15.
Idaho shot 65 percent from the floor in the first half, but the Vandals went 0 for 4 from the free-throw line and trailed 35-32 at the half. They shot only 32 percent in the second half.
The Vandals (2-7) trailed 43-42 with 11:50 to play after Michael Crowell missed the second of two free throws that would have tied the game.
That was as close as the Vandals would get down the stretch. Idaho closed to within 59-56 with 4:04 remaining, but the Jackrabbits scored nine straight points to go up 68-56 with just 46 seconds left.
Darin Nagle, the only Idaho player in double figures, had 14 points. Clint Sargent added 13 for points SDSU.
The Jackrabbits outrebounded the Vandals 35-23. Mohamed Berte had 10 rebounds for SDSU.
