Church concerts
“First Presbyterian Church will host the annual community performance of Handel’s “Messiah” on Sunday at 6 p.m.
Singers interested in participating in the mass choir are invited to arrive at the church, 318 S. Cedar St., at 4 p.m. to rehearse.
The annual event also will feature a chamber orchestra and soloists. Admission is free and all are welcome.
“Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene will put on its annual Christmas cantata today at 5 p.m. and during the 8:30 and 11 a.m. worship services on Sunday.
The liturgical choir and bell choir will perform the cantata. The church is at 1700 Pennsylvania Ave.
“The First Church of the Nazarene will host two performances by the African Children’s Choir on Sunday at 9 and 11 a.m.
The children are between 7 and 11 years old and come from poor villages in Nigeria, Ghana, Rwanda, Uganda and Kenya. All have lost at least one parent.
Admission is free, but donations will be accepted to benefit the choir.
The church is at 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd.
‘Lessons and Carols’
The choirs of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist will perform during a special service of “Nine Lessons and Carols” at 4 p.m. Sunday.
Lessons will be read by members of the cathedral, and each lesson will be followed by traditional hymns and carols. All are welcome to attend.
The cathedral is at 127 E. 12th Ave.
Living nativities
“A living nativity will be hosted by the Lutheran Church of the Master in Coeur d’Alene next weekend.
It will be open from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and next Saturday. A costumed tour guide will tell the Christmas story as visitors walk through the nativity. There will be live music and refreshments.
The church is at 4800 Ramsey Road.
“Crossover Church will host a drive-through living nativity from 6 to 8 p.m. today and Sunday at the church, 16825 N. Newport Highway.
There will be six scenes depicting the first Christmas. Those attending will listen to the story in their cars on CD or audio tape.
Winter solstice
St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., will host a Winter Solstice Celtic Eucharist at 7 p.m. Thursday.
