Ad-hockery (n.)

The word means a special set or package of programming code to fix an awkward problem that’s causing a system to choke.

The same word, ad-hockery, can also mean random assumptions made inside certain programs that suggest the programmer has made an intelligent decision about some feature, when in fact it was totally arbitrary.

Such as: a feature that tries to fill-in misspelled words when a user types in characters in a dialogue box, but plugs in the wrong choice because the program assumes it knows what the user really means.
