Zags fall just short against Long Beach State

The Gonzaga women’s soccer team fell to No. 21 Long Beach State 1-0 in overtime on Sunday at Martin Field in Spokane. The 49ers (8-2-0) got the victory at the 95:05 mark when Kim Silos scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Sara Baca.

The Bulldogs had chances, outshooting the 49ers 12-8, but were unable to capitalize. They fell to 5-4-1 in the loss.

•The Idaho women locked themselves into another defensive struggle but the offense was unable to score in Eugene, Ore., where the Vandals fell to the Ducks 2-0.

The Vandals (0-11-0) held the Ducks (5-4-0) to 11 shots but managed only one of their own in the contest.

•The Whitworth women edged Pacific 1-0 on Jael Hagerott’s goal just a minute into the overtime period in Forest Grove, Ore. The Pirates (5-1-1, 3-1-0 NWC) out shot the Boxers (2-3-2, 0-3-1) 17-5.

•The North Idaho women’s soccer team got a lopsided victory over NW Christian College in Coeur d’Alene, winning 7-2. Whitney Melton, Lisa Carter and Holly Meyer all scored twice for NIC in the win.

Men’s Soccer

The Gonzaga men’s soccer team fell to the University of San Diego 4-0 in San Diego, CA. The Bulldogs (3-4-1, 0-2-0 WCC) were out shot 19-9. Goalkeeper Vito Higgins had four saves for the Zags in the loss.

•The University of Washington men remain undefeated after beating Oregon State University 3-1 in Seattle. The No. 4 Huskies (8-0-0, 1-0-0 Pac-10) scored three goals in a 14 minute span of the first half and never looked back in the win over the Beavers (5-3-1, 0-1-0)

•The Whitworth men’s soccer team lost 1-0 to Pacific in Forest Grove, Ore. The Pirates (3-3-2, 2-1-1 NWC) outshot the Boxers (5-1-0, 2-1-0 NWC) 17-4 but were unable to score a goal in the loss.

•The North Idaho men fell to Walla Walla CC 4-0 in Coeur d’Alene. Both teams had nine shots but Walla Walla had seven on goal.

Junior Hockey

The Spokane Braves lost to the visiting Beaver Valley Knighthawks 4-2.

Brandon Astle scored twice for the Knighthawks (3-1-1) while J.C. Thomas and Jacob Walsh each scored a goal for the Braves (4-4).
