Washington quarterback Mark Brunell broke the NFL record for most consecutive passes completed in a single game when he connected on his first 22 passes on Sunday against the Texans in Houston.

The old record was held by Oakland’s Rich Gannon, who completed 21 straight against Denver on Nov. 11, 2002.

The 36-year-old Brunell found Santana Moss on 6-yard pass late in the third quarter for his 22nd completion of the game.

Two plays later, Houston’s Travis Johnson batted down a pass intended for Brandon Lloyd, Brunell’s first incompletion.

Donovan McNabb holds the NFL record for the most consecutive passes competed over a two-game span with 24. That was 10 straight completions on Nov. 28, 2004 against the Giants and 14 in a row on Dec. 5 2004 against Green Bay.

Favre on the heels of Marino

Brett Favre joined elite company with the 400th touchdown pass of his career, then added two more scores to lead the Green Bay Packers to their first win of the season, 31-24 over the Detroit Lions in Detroit.

With his first TD pass of the game – a 75-yarder to rookie Greg Jennings – Favre joined Hall of Famer Dan Marino as the only quarterbacks to reach 400 touchdown passes. Marino has 420. Favre reached the milestone in his 228th game, one more than Marino needed to throw No. 400.

Shockey speaks out after loss to Seattle

Jeremy Shockey is at it again.

New York’s volatile tight end criticized coach Tom Coughlin after the Giants fell behind by 35 points early before losing to Seattle 42-30.

“We got outplayed, and outcoached. Write that down,” Shockey said.

Asked what he meant by outcoached, Shockey said, “You saw the game.”

It was reminiscent of comments made by running back Tiki Barber after the Giants’ wild-card game loss to Carolina last season. Barber said after the game that the Giants were outcoached by Carolina’s John Fox, a former Giants defensive coordinator.

Coughlin was practically shouting from a podium after the game. Sweat was running down his face at the thought of Eli Manning’s two first-quarter interceptions, a lost fumble and a 35-0 first-half hole that was the largest in New York’s 82-year history.

Wide receiver’s brother dies

The brother of Indianapolis Colts receiver Reggie Wayne was killed when the delivery truck he was driving crashed into a highway guardrail in Kenner, La.

Rashad Wayne was pronounced dead at the scene, said James Gallagher, a spokesman for the Kenner Police Department.

Police responded to a call at 10:15 a.m. Sunday about a wreck on westbound Interstate 10. Officers found a Capital City Produce Company truck stopped in the highway’s right lane and found the 32-year-old Wayne in the cab with a severe head injury.
