Sandpoint cruises at state
Sandpoint beat Skyview 25-17, 25-16, 22-25, 25-22 in the second round of the State 4A tournament Friday at Kimberly High School.
The Bulldogs defeated Century 18-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21 in the first round earlier in the day.
Sandpoint advances to play Bonneville in a semifinal game today. If the Bulldogs win that game, they will play for a chance to be crowned state champions.
Bonneville made it to the semifinal game by beating Kuna 25-21, 25-16, 25-11 in the first round and Preston 25-21, 25-14, 21-25, 25-12 in the second round.
“Coeur d’Alene and Lake City were eliminated from the State 5A tournament at Burley High School after losing their first two games.
Capital beat CdA’s Vikings 23-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-18 in the first round. Lauren Hale had 15 digs and Natalie Stewart added 33 assists for Coeur d’Alene in the loss.
The Vikings were eliminated in their next match, a 22-25, 17-25, 14-25 loss to Skyline. Katie Rossner and Liz Davis both had seven kills and Hale added 19 digs for Coeur d’Alene in a losing effort.
LC’s Timberwolves lost their first game to Centennial 22-25, 16-25, 25-22, 25-22, 15-12.
Lake City was then eliminated after losing 13-25, 27-25, 18-25, 25-22, 13-15 to Boise.
Idaho Falls and Eagle will play in a semifinal game today and the winner of that game will play in the championship round.

Doris Sines had 10 kills, Michelle Guidry contributed 31 assists and Kim Sather added eight blocks to lead the Lumberjacks. Lacey Hopkins had 13 kills and Molly Blankenship added three aces for the Spartans, who are now finished for the season.
Earlier in the day, Priest River lost to Buhl 16-25, 21-25, 18-25. Brittany Kolar had 10 assists and Alicia Schanilec had nine digs for the Spartans in the loss.
The Lumberjacks fell to Shelley 19-25, 17-25, 19-25 in an earlier game. Sather had 19 kills, Guidry dished out 19 assists and Katie Felix added four aces for St. Maries in the loss.
The Lumberjacks will play Sugar-Salem in a loser-out game today.

Heather Moore had 13 kills, and Lisa Carver added four aces and 13 digs for Wallace in the loss.
The Miners were eliminated after losing to Hagerman 22-25, 19-25, 11-25 in the second round.
Carver had 19 digs and Cara Hayman had 25 assists in a losing effort.
