Prostitution sting results in arrests

The Spokesman-Review

A Spokane police prostitution and drug sting resulted in several misdemeanor, felony and warrant arrests on Wednesday.

Among those arrested was a Spokesman-Review security guard. Don Butterfield, 68, was cited for patronizing a prostitute, a misdemeanor, and released, said Officer William Hager.

Shaun O’L. Higgins, a newspaper spokesman, said Butterfield resigned Thursday morning. He had been a security guard at the newspaper since March 1995 and previously worked security for other companies after several years as a deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in the 1960s and early 1970s.

Butterfield was not on duty at the time of the arrest.

Reward offered for tip on suspect

Secret Witness is offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest of a man who allegedly ran from deputies during a Thursday morning traffic stop.

Ryan Patrick Graham, 33, is described as white, 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes, Spokane County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan said.

On Thursday, a deputy attempted to stop a car at Eighth Avenue and Carnahan Street in Spokane Valley after he determined that the driver, Graham, was wanted on charges of second-degree vehicle prowling, second-degree assault and second-degree theft, Reagan said.

Anyone with information on Graham’s whereabouts is asked to call (509) 327-5111.

Four arrested at marijuana farm

Four Pasco residents face possible federal charges in a Stevens County marijuana-growing operation that Sheriff Craig Thayer said produced 4,335 plants with a street value of more than $8.6 million.

Thayer said his deputies, federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents and a Washington State Patrol special weapons team had staked out the unoccupied pot farm.

The stakeout was initiated Oct. 3 when officers searched a Springdale-area site in the 4100 block of Nellie Smith Way and discovered the size of the operation.

Three men and a woman were arrested about 7:30 a.m. Oct. 5 when they drove up in a 2006 Honda and a large, enclosed truck. The suspects were identified as Javier Chavez Jr., 27; Victor Hernandez Garcia Jr., 27; Rafael Chavez Jr., 23; and Blanca Rocio Chavez Sanchez, 19.
