The Socratic Club of Gonzaga University, 502 E. Boone Ave., is presenting the Rev. Ron Tacelli from Boston College Friday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in Room 101 of the school’s Administration Building.

Tacelli will speak on, “Why Does God Hide? Pascallian Reflections by a Jesuit.”

Blaise Pascal was a 17th-century philosopher, theologian and Roman Catholic.

“Sacred Heart Church, 219 E. Rockwood Ave., is hosting a panel discussion, “Speaking Our Truth,” starting Monday at 7 p.m.

The panel, which will discuss baptism, include Jan Eberley, the Rev. Mark Pautler and Catherine Siejk.

“Westminster Congregational Church, 411 S. Washington St., is presenting “Soul Feast,” a weekend of workshops that will focus on spiritual growth and church leadership Oct. 20 and 21.

The event will begin Oct. 20 from 7 to 9 p.m. with a panel of pastors discussing, “Whoever you are, wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here.”

On Oct. 21, there will be nine different workshops from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The cost for the weekend is $20 and includes brunch and lunch on Saturday.

“Catholicism for a New Millennium and the Jesuit Community of Gonzaga University are presenting John Coleman, a theologian and scholar in the sociology of religion, today at 7:30 p.m. in the Cataldo Globe Room on the GU campus, 502 E. Boone Ave.

Coleman will speak on, “The Church and Globalization.”

“Padma Ling Buddhist Center, 1014 W. Seventh Ave., is presenting Khentrul Lodro Thaye Rinpoche, who will discuss “Seven-point Mind Training by Atisha.”

Rinpoche, a Buddhist scholar will speak Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 5 p.m.

There is a suggested donation of $10 per session, or $40 for all sessions.

“The Peace and Justice Action League of Spokane is presenting Barbara Lubin of the Middle East Children’s Alliance today at 7 p.m. at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 2120 E. First Ave.

Lubin will speak on the topic “Crossing the Lines: Children as First Victims, Palestine, Iraq and Lebanon.”

Concerts

“The Unity Church of Truth, 2900 S. Bernard St., is presenting “Broadway on Bernard, a One-Night Broadway Review” Saturday.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with wine and hors d’oeuvres, and the show begin at 7.

The performers at this event come from the Spokane Civic Theatre and Interplayers Theatre.

The cost is $20 for general admission, $25 for reserved seating, and $30 at the door.

“Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St., is presenting the Spokane Area Children’s Chorus Sunday at 4 p.m.

All five of the chorus’s choirs will perform at this event, which will feature music from many cultures.

Workshops

“Ancient Traditions Community Church, 1928 E. Rich Ave., is offering “Finding Your Own Voice,” a singing workshop Oct. 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The workshop will discuss simple exercises that will help overcome fear, embarrassment and more for those with stage fright.

The cost is $75 and includes lunch.

Catholic Charities and the Interfaith Council are presenting a series of workshops that will discuss initiatives on the Washington state voter’s ballot from a faith perspective.

All workshops will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.

The first of these will be next Thursday at the Spokane Friends Church, 1612 W. Dalke Ave. The next will be Oct. 25 at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave.

Festivals and sales

Green Bluff Community United Methodist Church, 9908 E. Green Bluff Road, is presenting its annual Apple Festival Craft and Bake Sale Saturday, Sunday and Oct. 21 and 22.

The sale will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.

Items for sale include crafts, apple pie and dumplings and there will also be entertainment.

Heritage Congregational Church, 1801 E. 29th Ave., is presenting its annual Pilgrim Harvest Festival and Dinner Oct. 21 from 3 to 6 p.m.

The event will include period food such at roast turkey, gruel, cranberry sauce and baked cod. There will also be door prizes. A portion of the admission price is tax deductible. Some of the proceeds will benefit the church’s building improvement fund.

The cost before Saturday is $9 for anyone 12 years and older, $5 for children between the ages of 5 and 11. Children younger than 5 get in free. At the door, the cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children.
