New Yogos fruit snacks covered with yogurt

There’s a new addition in the fruit snack aisle.

But the results for Yogos were mixed from both the kids and adults on The Spokesman-Review’s tasting panel.

Some liked the innovative yogurt-covered fruit snacks. Others said they might trade with friends in the lunchroom.

Carter Martin, 8, is keeping this snack, saying, “It’s excellent.” So is Andrew Kazanis, also 8: “I like the flavors,” he says.

Even Chris Hollman admitted they were not bad-tasting, but he was skeptical of the name. “They’re called ‘Yogos’ but can’t have more than a molecule of yogurt in them,” he said.

Scott Breuer, 12, said he did not like all of the Yogos varieties he tried. Each pouch contains a mix of colors and tastes. “Some flavors are better than others,” he said.

Seven-year-old Grace Kohler will be looking for a trade if Yogos end up in her lunch bag. “No way,” she said, after tasting the Island Explosion flavor.

Overall, the children on the panel gave the yogurt dots three-and-a-half stars for flavor.

The adults on our panel were equally conflicted about the flavor of the “yogurty-covered fruity dots.” The snacks earned a three-star rating on our five-star scale. Several said they were skeptical that the snacks contained much yogurt.

“Not yogurt!! If I were a kid I’d stick these up my nose and throw them at people,” said Laura Hollman, 19. “This one was even more like eating tired gum.”

Marilyn Moore also worried that the little fruit snacks could be hazardous to children. “Does it have a label warning that it is not for toddlers and babies?”

Tina Johnson said the snacks were tasty but should be considered candy. “This is not a substitute for yogurt.

Donald Clegg wondered, “Why not just eat a spoonful of sugar and be done with it?”
