Grade bar raised for student athletes

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

TWIN FALLS, Idaho – The Twin Falls School Board is holding student athletes to a higher standard next year.

Starting next fall, students who want to participate in sports and other extracurricular activities must have at least a 2.0 grade point average, the school board decided Monday. The current minimum grade point requirement is 0.75.

The board is also requiring that athletic directors and coaches review players’ academic performance more frequently, using midterm reports as well as report cards. Students earning a D or an F in any class will be put on academic probation and must attend a peer tutoring program if they want to remain in activities.
