Get out, get going

Old is beautiful

Fans of items that only get more stunning with age can attend the 31st annual Custer Fall Antique and Collectors Sale today and Sunday at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center. With more than 300 vendors, there's sure to be something for everyone from the novice shopper to the discerning collector. There will be a variety of furniture, dolls, coins, fine china and more. Hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6 (good for the whole weekend), and children 12 and under are admitted free. Parking is free.

A real page turner

True book lovers never need an excuse to drop in at their favorite book store and browse, but a good cause does come in handy when explaining the purchases to a questioning spouse. The Barnes & Noble store at the Spokane Valley Mall is hosting a book fair today from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Pick up any books, music, games or other merchandise and mention the book fair when paying to have a percentage of the sale donated to the Spokane Symphony music education programs.

The Octoberfest celebration today at the Holman Gardens Retirement Community, 12912 E. 12th Ave., is different than most, which includes the start time of 8 a.m. So put down your coffee and head out for a pancake breakfast, bake sale and silent auction until 11 a.m. Admission is $4 for adults and $2 for children under 12.
