Join sing-along at First Presbyterian Church

Sing-Along Messiah

For almost 100 years, First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar St., has offered a Community Sing-Along Messiah during the Christmas season.

This year, the church will be holding it Sunday.

If you want to join the singing, rehearsal begins at 4 p.m. If you just want to listen, the concert begins at 6. Singers will practice the choruses of Handel’s Messiah and will be joined by professional soloists and an orchestra.

More concerts

“The Cathedral and the Arts is presenting “Place of the Blest,” a holiday concert featuring the Spokane Youth Orchestra, the Eastern Washington University Chamber Choir and the Spokane Area Children’s Chorus.

The concert will be held Sunday at 4 and 7 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, 127 E. 12th Ave.

Admission is free.

“The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, 1115 W. Riverside Ave., is hosting a benefit concert Sunday at 3 p.m.

The HARK quartet will perform.

The proceeds will benefit the Spokane Valley Food Bank, and admission will be a donation of food or cash.

Felsorakos Celebration

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St., is celebrating the town of Felsorakos, Transylvania, Sunday during its 10:30 a.m. service.

The church helped contribute to a water project in the town, and the service will include a discussion about the project and a presentation of quilts from the Felsorakos women’s group, and carved plaques.

At 11:45 a.m., there will be a lunch of Transylvanian foods, a Hungarian dance performance and a short movie, “Transylvanian Women.”

Sales and bazaars

Mission Community Presbyterian Church, 2103 E. Mission Ave., is presenting its annual crafts bazaar Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“The Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 W. Fort Wright Drive, is holding its Fourth Annual Alternative Gift Fair Sunday from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Many people like to donate money to charity instead of buying presents, and this is your opportunity to do just that. Charities that will have representatives on hand will include Heifer International, the Spokane Neighborhood Action Program, and Habitat for Humanity.

Liberty Park United Methodist Church, 1526 E. 11th Ave., is presenting its annual Women of Liberty Park church bazaar and luncheon Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include a choice of potato, minestrone and chicken noodle soups for $4.

Items for sale include quilts, Christmas decorations, crafts and more. The proceeds will help send children to camp and mission projects such as Hope for the Children of Africa.

“The Ministry Institute, 405 E. Sinto Ave., is presenting “Listening for God’s Voice – in Silence” Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The class will discuss ways to deepen the stillness in our lives and will include time for silent reflection.

The cost is $15 and includes lunch.
