Hints from Heloise

The Spokesman-Review

Dear Heloise: How about using common kitchen extracts to flavor coffee and milk? I use powdered instant milk and have found that any flavor extract is a real treat in the cold milk. I mix a pitcher and let it sit until cold or put some ice cubes in the drinking glass. You will have to find the quantity of flavoring you like. Determine the number of glasses your pitcher holds and take it from there. The flavorings could also be added to regular processed milk. It sure is good.

Also, for a refreshing hot drink during the day or night, put a cup of the flavored milk in the microwave and heat. I have used banana, vanilla, coconut, lemon, peppermint, peach, rum, walnut, butterscotch, blueberry – just about all of them. You can mix some flavors, such as blueberry and banana or coconut and pineapple, for a different taste. You can use cinnamon, nutmeg – anything you like. – E.A. Smith, Downing, Mo.
