Doering good role model

The Spokesman-Review

Regarding Greg Shultz’s “Comparison in poor taste” in the Nov. 19 Letters to the Editor.

Schultz’s insinuation that Sue Doering is not a quality role model for our children based on one sports writer’s slant/embellishment of anything that she said during the state volleyball tournament is shortsighted, at best. He should query the Colfax players, parents, and fans if he has any questions about that.

As for the David and Goliath metaphor, which apparently is rich enough in its meaning and applications to have been included in the Bible and studied by people of all ages the world over, it was just that, a metaphor, and not some inflammatory mantra chanted from the coaches between games and during each time out. Given that Lakeside had become Colfax’s “Goliath” by beating them three out of four times during the season and in postseason play, perhaps it was apt.

Instead of launching an attack on Sue’s character, perhaps Schultz should have called the Yakima Herald-Republic sports writer and asked him about his choice of verbiage. I think Schultz would have found out that he is a nice guy, too.
