Cardinals cruise to easy victory

Kay Hill had 14 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and four assists as North Idaho pummeled United Tribes 95-21 at the Pepsi Cardinal Women’s Basketball Classic in Coeur d’Alene on Saturday.

Niki Scott added 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Cardinals (5-2), who outrebounded United Tribes 57-31.

Justina George scored 13 points and Simone Jordan added 11 for NIC.

“ CC Spokane overcame a five-point halftime deficit and beat Grant MacEwan 68-57 at the Pepsi Cardinal Classic in Coeur d’Alene.

The Sasquatch (4-1) were led by Liz Beardslee, who had 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds.

After trailing 33-28 at halftime, CCS came out strong in the second half, outscoring Grant MacEwan 40-24 and holding them to just 28.6 percent field-goal percentage.

Abby Hatten had 13 points and Ren Mallory added 11 for the Sasquatch.

“ Sara Tuomi had 18 points and Chelsey Warburton added 14 and eight assists as Weber State (4-1) beat Idaho 98-57 in the consolation game of the Coors Rocky Mountain Invitational in Fort Collins, Colo.

Hanna Wells, Jessica Summers and Katie Madison scored 14 points apiece for the Vandals (1-3).

“ Ivory Latta scored 20 points and Erlana Larkins added 19 as No. 2 North Carolina (5-0) beat Gonzaga 101-63 in the semifinals of the Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu.

Jami Bjorklund led the Bulldogs (5-2) with 21 points. Simone Santos had 10 and Michelle Elliott added 10.

Gonzaga will face tournament host Hawaii for third place today.

“ Mesha Williams led No. 9 LSU (7-1) with 19 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Tigers scored an easy 105-52 victory over Eastern Washington at the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic in San Antonio.

Katy Baker led the Eagles (3-3) with 12 points. She was followed by Ashley Knight and Brittney Osborn, each with eight.

“ Jen Gottschalk had 16 points, 12 rebounds and five assists as Santa Clara (4-2) beat visiting Washington State 80-73.

The Cougars (2-3) were led by Marisa Stotler, who scored 25 points on 10-of-15 shooting.

“ Andrea Plouffe scored a career-high 23 points and Cameo Hicks added 21 as Washington topped Saint Louis (5-1) 96-69 in the first round of the Basketball Travelers Husky Classic at Bank of America Arena in Seattle.

The Huskies (2-2) won their second-straight game after opening the season 0-2 and will face Northern Iowa (1-3) for the tournament championship. Northern Iowa beat Miami 73-66 in overtime.

Volleyball

Washington State ended its volleyball season with a 30-27, 30-23, 30-18 loss at the hands of No. 3 Stanford (25-3, 16-2) at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif.

Adetokunbo Faleti led the Cougars (15-17, 3-15) with 11 kills and Kelly Hyder and Stephanie Weishaar each chipped in with 10 digs.

Corina Beyer led Washington State with 28 assists.

“ No. 2 Washington ended its regular season with a 26-30, 30-19, 30-20, 30-24 win over host California.

Christal Morrison led the Huskies (25-4, 15-3) with 18 kills and Courtney Thompson added 59 assists.

Angie Pressey had 17 kills and 11 digs to lead the Golden Bears (20-9, 9-9).
