Deputy shoots man wielding ax

VASHON ISLAND, Wash. – An ax-wielding 26-year-old man was shot and critically wounded Thursday by a King County sheriff’s deputy who had responded to a Thanksgiving domestic violence call, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

The injured man, who was not immediately identified, was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was in critical condition, Sgt. John Urquhart said.

Deputies were called to a residence on Southwest Point Robinson Road, near where Maury Island meets Vashon Island, because of a dispute involving the adult son and his parents.

Officers were confronted by the armed man in the driveway and shocked him at least once with a Taser to no effect. Eventually, one deputy fired, wounding the man, Urquhart said.

Additional details were not immediately available.
