Eagles place McNabb on IR, sign QB Jacobs

Associated Press The Spokesman-Review

The Philadelphia Eagles placed Donovan McNabb on injured reserve Tuesday, ending the five-time Pro Bowl quarterback’s season early for the third time in five years.

McNabb tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in Sunday’s 31-13 loss to Tennessee, and is expected to have surgery within a month. He’s expected to be sidelined for at least eight months.

Linebacker Torrance Daniels was promoted from the practice squad to take McNabb’s roster spot. Quarterback Omar Jacobs was signed to the practice squad.

A fifth-round pick by Pittsburgh earlier this year, Jacobs spent a week on the Steelers’ practice squad before he was released in September. Jacobs twice received All-Mid American Conference honors at Bowling Green, and finished his career as the school’s all-time leader in touchdown passes with 71. He completed 523 of 811 passes for 6,938 yards and only 11 interceptions.

Jeff Garcia or A.J. Feeley will start Sunday in McNabb’s place for the Eagles (5-5) against Indianapolis.

Ward may not play

Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward is questionable for Sunday’s game in Baltimore with a hyperextended knee.

Ward was hurt during the Steelers’ fourth-quarter comeback Sunday in Cleveland and had to be assisted off the field. An MRI test performed Monday showed no internal damage to the knee.

Packers sign QB Bouman

The Green Bay Packers signed quarterback Todd Bouman and placed quarterback Aaron Rodgers on injured reserve.

Bouman, 34, has nine years of NFL experience, mostly with the Minnesota Vikings. Bouman spent the past three seasons in New Orleans, where Packers coach Mike McCarthy was the offensive coordinator in 2003 and 2004.

Bouman started three games for the Saints last year, completing 68 of 122 passes for 722 yards with two touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Rodgers, a first-round draft choice in 2005, will miss the rest of the season after breaking his foot Sunday during the Packers’ 35-0 loss to New England at Lambeau Field.
