Roadrunners next foe for unbeaten Gonzaga
The focus of Gonzaga University’s unbeaten men’s basketball team will be tested this afternoon when the University of Texas at San Antonio comes to the McCarthey Athletic Center for a non-conference matchup that tips off at 5.
The Bulldogs (3-0) will be trying to protect their nation’s-best 41-game home winning streak and keep their record unblemished in the McCarthey Center, where they are 29-0.
Of concern to GU coaches is the fact that the Zags have a historic showdown against No. 3-ranked North Carolina on Tuesday night in the semifinals of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
But head coach Mark Few said following Wednesday’s 78-69 win over Baylor in the West Regions finals of the NIT Season Tip-Off that he was confident his Bulldogs would not look past UTSA, which lost to Washington State 67-44 on Friday night in Pullman.
The Roadrunners (1-2) got 13 points from junior guard Isaiah Allen in their loss to WSU, but shot only 33 percent (16 of 48) from the field.
GU has relied on some remarkably balanced scoring during its unbeaten start to the season and has all five of its starters averaging over 9.3 points per game.
