Page books EWU berth in Big Sky semifinals

Senior Brittney Page had 21 kills and six digs Thursday as Eastern Washington beat Weber State (9-24) 31-29, 18-30, 35-33, 30-26 in the Big Sky Conference volleyball tournament quarterfinals at Sacramento, Calif.

The Eagles (19-8) will play second-seeded Portland State today at 5 p.m. in the semifinals. Top-seeded Sacramento State will meet Northern Colorado in the other semifinal.

EWU announced that Page was named to the All-Big Sky first team and sophomore Addie Webster to the second team.

“Arizona State (14-13, 6-10 Pac-10) beat host Washington State 27-30, 30-26, 32-30, 23-30, 15-13. Kelly Rosin had 19 kills and 19 digs for WSU (15-14, 3-12).

“Christal Morrison had 28 kills to lead No. 2 Washington (23-3, 13-2 Pac-10) to a 30-19, 30-25, 29-31, 30-19 win over visiting Arizona (12-16, 3-13).

“Saint Mary’s (11-3, 6-7) topped host Gonzaga 30-26, 30-26, 24-30, 30-21 in West Coast Conference play. Becky Jones had 11 kills and 18 digs for GU (8-20, 3-10).

“Ashlee Lupfer had 16 digs and 13 kills as Community Colleges of Spokane (22-22) bounced back to beat Highline CC 33-31, 28-30, 15-9 in loser-out action of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges tournament at SFCC.

CCS advances to play another loser-out match at 4:45.

CCS lost its opener to Mt. Hood Community College, 30-20, 30-22, 30-22.

Brittanee Marsh led CCS with 10 digs.

Girls basketball

Morgon VanderEsch scored 29 points to lead Grangeville (2-0) to a 44-34 win over visiting Moscow (0-1) in non-league play.
